The acid creeps up and through the case, along the posts and then to the terminals where the corrosion will eventually cause breakage, most likely, causing a major inconvenience.    HEAT SHRINK intensifies this corrosive process, speeding it dramatically, as it gives the acid a hiding place where you are unable to clean and neutralize it.
