    Description

We are selling this approximately 32" by 29" Navajo single Saddle Throw / Rug for a 94 years young lady we have helped move to assisted living.  She states this rug was purchased while on a trip through the Navajo Nation in the late 1950's.  She states it was purchased at the Hubbell Trading Post near Ganado.  She explained it was not a new item when purchased.  She had this rug looked at many years ago by a dealer/appraiser who gave her the following information on this textile.  His opinion was that this geometric eye dazzler exhibits weaving styles dating to the 1900 to 1930 period, likely in the earlier part of this range.  It is a combination of Churro Navajo handspun wool with the brighter colors being commercially purchased "Germantown" wools.  He also stated he felt it was indicative of the Teec Nos Pos area of the Navajo Nation, but weaving styles often migrated to multiple areas, so is arguable.  Condition is very high for this early period of weaving.  We have researched his statements by comparing with available internet information and similar examples and stand by this assessment with a 100% refund upon return if this information is incorrect.  A beautiful and well preserved example of early Navajo weaving.  Thanks for looking!
